Decking Restoration
Grey, slippery decking in Croydon deep cleaned, sanded and protected with UV-resistant oils.
British weather is hard on garden decking. Fortunately, the damage is usually only skin deep, and careful sanding reveals sound, attractive timber below.
Our Croydon team applies the same care to decking as to indoor floors. The result is a deck that looks good, feels safer underfoot and is protected for seasons to come. Our guide to decking restoration after winter explains the timing.
Our process
Algae and green growth removed with a deep clean
Loose or rotten boards replaced and screws tightened
Sanding to remove grey, weathered fibres and raised grain
Two coats of UV-resistant decking oil
Every kind of deck
We restore treated softwood decks as well as hardwoods such as balau, ipe and oak. Grooved and smooth boards both respond well, although grooved boards need extra cleaning. Wooden steps and benches can be done at the same time.
Aftercare
A light clean each spring and a fresh coat of oil every year or two will keep the deck protected. Just as indoor floors benefit from re-oiling, decks need regular oil to stay water-resistant.
When to restore your deck
Faded, silver-grey timber
Slippery boards, especially after rain
Rough, splintering surfaces
Old stain or oil peeling in patches
Regular care prevents water getting into the timber and causing rot. Most decks are restored in one or two days, depending on size and condition. Because the oil needs dry weather to cure, we keep an eye on the forecast and reschedule if needed. Late spring and early autumn are usually ideal.
Repairs and safety
We inspect the boards and visible frame as we clean. Rotten or split boards are swapped out, and protruding screws replaced so the surface is safe for bare feet. If the frame underneath needs attention, we will tell you before carrying on.
Because outdoor timber faces the weather, we will explain at the survey what our service guarantee covers for decking. Check our prices page for typical decking costs.

Questions about decking restoration
What do you need from us on the day?
We need access to a standard power socket and, ideally, parking near the property. Our machines run on domestic power, and we bring everything else with us.
Can you replace rotten decking boards?
Yes — we replace rotten or split boards before sanding. New boards are blended in once the whole deck is oiled.
My decking has gone grey and slippery — can it be saved?
In most cases, yes. We clean, sand and treat the boards with a UV-resistant decking oil that brings back the colour and reduces slipperiness. See our decking restoration service.
How often should decking be oiled?
Most decks benefit from a fresh coat every year. South-facing decks in full sun may need it sooner. A yearly coat keeps the timber protected.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
When is the best time to restore decking?
Late spring to early autumn is ideal. The timber needs a few dry days so the oil can soak in properly. Our guide to decking after winter explains how to prepare.
What our customers say
Honest advice — no unnecessary work
“I asked for a full sand, but after looking at the floor they said a fresh coat of lacquer would do. Half the price and the floor looks like new. Rare honesty.”

Fair price, brilliant finish
“Clear quote with no surprises. They explained the oil options without any pressure and the colour sample matched what we wanted perfectly.”

Great advice on staining
“I had picked a colour from a brochure, but on our pine it would have looked almost black. The samples showed us a better option and the floor looks brilliant.”
