Parquet Floor Repairs
Loose, hollow and missing parquet blocks re-laid and matched in Croydon. Original blocks are saved and reused wherever possible.
Expert parquet repairs
Old parquet usually fails from below: the original adhesive dries out and blocks start to lift. Damp, heating, past leaks and settlement all cause blocks to work loose, rattle underfoot or go missing altogether. In almost every case the floor can be saved.
What a parquet repair involves
Lifting loose and hollow blocks, cleaning off old adhesive and re-bonding them with a flexible modern adhesive
Replacing broken or missing blocks with reclaimed parquet of the same species and size
Rebuilding herringbone, chevron and basket-weave patterns, including borders
Levelling and repairing the subfloor where needed
Repairs that disappear
Aged oak, teak and merbau take on a deep colour that new blocks simply do not have. That is why we use reclaimed blocks wherever possible, matched by species, size and grain before they go down. After the repair, parquet floor sanding brings new and old blocks to one flat, even surface.
Signs your parquet needs attention
A hollow sound when you walk, blocks that rock or click, gaps opening along the pattern or a raised area near a radiator are all signs of failing adhesive. Loose blocks tend to loosen their neighbours, so early repairs keep costs down. Read our parquet restoration guide for more on what causes blocks to lift.
Saving the original blocks
We treat every original block as worth saving, because no reclaimed timber matches it quite as well. This keeps the colour and character of the floor and keeps the cost of new timber to a minimum. If the subfloor is part of the problem, we level or repair it before any blocks go back down.

Questions about parquet floor repairs
Can old parquet be saved?
In nearly every case, yes. We re-glue loose blocks, replace missing ones with matched or reclaimed timber, then sand and finish the whole floor for an even, seamless look. Find out more about parquet floor repairs.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
My parquet is stuck down with black bitumen — is that a problem?
Black bitumen was a common adhesive for parquet laid before the 1970s. It is not a problem for sanding, but loose blocks need cleaning back and re-fixing with a compatible adhesive. We check this during the survey and include it in the quote.
Is parquet sanded differently?
Because the blocks run in different directions, we use a multi-direction sanding sequence. Finishing with a planetary or buffing machine removes swirl marks and leaves a flat, smooth surface.
Can you quote from photos?
For many jobs, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
In many cases. Light marks often sand away, while cupped or blackened boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we may check moisture levels before starting.
What our customers say
Honest advice — no unnecessary work
“I asked for a full sand, but after looking at the floor they said a fresh coat of lacquer would do. Half the price and the floor looks like new. Rare honesty.”

“Clear quote with no surprises. They explained the oil options without any pressure and the colour sample matched what we wanted perfectly.”
Sanderstead
Great advice on staining
“I had picked a colour from a brochure, but on our pine it would have looked almost black. The samples showed us a better option and the floor looks brilliant.”
