Floorboards Repairs
Split, rotten and loose floorboards replaced and secured in Croydon, with matched reclaimed timber.
Saving your original floorboards
Old floorboards take a lot of punishment, from heavy furniture to decades of service work underneath. Split ends, rotten sections near radiators, short patched pieces and boards that bounce underfoot are all common. We fix the floor properly first, so the finished result looks right and lasts.
What we do
Replacing split, rotten or badly cut boards with matched reclaimed pine
Securing loose and squeaky boards to the joists
Replacing short patch pieces with full-length boards
Supporting weak joists and noggins under bouncy areas
Finding the right timber
Imperial board sizes in older homes do not match modern timber. Reclaimed pine of the right size and age gives a repair that is almost impossible to spot after finishing. Once the boards are sound, floorboards restoration sands and finishes the whole floor so everything matches.
Gaps and draughts
Wide gaps between boards let in draughts and collect dirt. We can close them with gap filling, using slivers or resin depending on the gap. Because floorboards move with the seasons, gap filling is not covered by our service guarantee, and we always explain this before work starts.
How we secure loose boards
Most movement comes from fixings that have lost their grip or joists that have dried out and moved. Boards are secured with modern fixings set below the surface, so they are hidden once the floor is finished. Where boards bounce, we check the joists underneath and add noggins or support where needed. The result is a floor that feels solid underfoot and stays quiet.
Why repairs come first
Repairs always come before sanding, because sanding loose boards leaves dips and ridges. Sorting the boards first means the sanding machines work on a flat, stable surface and the finish lasts longer. If you are planning a restoration, see our guide to restoring Victorian floorboards.

Questions about floorboards repairs
Can you match replacement boards to my floor?
We source matching new or reclaimed timber of the same species and width. After sanding and finishing the whole area, repairs blend in. Learn more about wood floor repairs.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and we confirm everything with a fixed written quote.
How do you fill gaps between floorboards?
Smaller gaps are filled with resin mixed with fine sanding dust, so the colour matches. Wider gaps get thin pine slivers glued in and sanded flush. Our gap filling guide compares the two.
Why do my floorboards squeak?
Most creaks are caused by boards moving on their fixings. We screw loose boards down into the joists and fix any movement in the joists below. Read about causes and fixes.
Can old pine floorboards be restored?
Yes — original boards often hide beautiful timber under old paint and varnish. We knock down protruding nails, replace split boards and sand back to fresh timber. Read our guide to Victorian floorboards for the full process.
Why is gap filling not guaranteed?
Gap filling is excluded from our service guarantee. Wooden floors expand and shrink with the seasons and with movement in the building, which can open small cracks in the filler. We choose the method that suits your floor best to keep this to a minimum.
What our customers say
Honest advice — no unnecessary work
“I asked for a full sand, but after looking at the floor they said a fresh coat of lacquer would do. Half the price and the floor looks like new. Rare honesty.”

“Clear quote with no surprises. They explained the oil options without any pressure and the colour sample matched what we wanted perfectly.”

Great advice on staining
“I had picked a colour from a brochure, but on our pine it would have looked almost black. The samples showed us a better option and the floor looks brilliant.”
